The Mental Health Therapeutic Security Technician (MHTST) provides Individual residential support services and skills training to residents assigned to psychiatric services; as well as front-line supervision to residents on the living units at TCCC. This includes continuous monitoring of residents and unit activities. The MHTST assures the safety and security of the living unit and supports the therapeutic goals of the program. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Mental Health Services Coordinator with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Clinical guidance is provided by the Mental Health Services Coordinator.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor degree preferred
- One (1) year direct care experience in a forensic, correctional, mental health or hospital setting preferred

ResponsibilitiesMaintains the safety of the living unit and day rooms for residents and staff.Continually observes resident's behavior for safety or clinical issues. Provides Individual Residential Support Services to residents assigned to psychiatric caseloads.Facilitates skills training groups for residents assigned to psychiatric caseloads.Maintains records of individual residential support services provided and skills training group attendance. Completes documentation of individual residential support services and skills training groups in ERMA and CSS. Intervenes and mediates in the settlement of disputes and altercations between residents in the living units and other common areas throughout the facility.Takes necessary corrective action to de-escalate or halt adverse resident behavior including physical restraint of violent residents. Performs routine searches of resident living areas to identify and remove contraband.Records and documents resident behavior related to security, safety and treatment of residents. Records information in logs, reports or charts pertaining to daily resident activity and behavior, prepares various reports on unit activities. Conducts accurate living unit counts at assigned times each day and reports the actual number of residents on the living unit to central controlMaintains logs of every resident on the unit and the destination of every resident that moves off the unitCultural competency-is sensitive to cultural diversity issues, treats residents as an individual, and considers the culture of the resident when providing care and treatment.Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.Perform other duties as assigned.
